A recent draw held on October 17 saw the Prince Edward Island province of Canada issuing the most invitations since February in order to invite more immigrants. Prince Edward Island invited a total of 158 immigration candidates under the following categories: Express Entry, Labour Impact and Business Impact categories.
The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program, also known as PEI PNP, lets the province nominate a particular number of economic immigration candidates who have the skills that matches with the market needs.
Out of 158 invitations, 146 were assigned to candidates who had a registration as an Expression of Interest (EOI) with the PEI PNP under the Express Entry category, or the different streams of the Labour Impact category. Another 12 invitations were given out to candidates with EOI profile in PEI’s Business Impact, Work Permit Stream. The candidates invited under this stream had a minimum EOI score of 122.
If you know how Canadian Immigration works, then you must be aware that the Express Entry category is closely connected with the Federal Express Entry category, which is pivotal in managing the pool of candidates for three of Canada’s main economic immigration categories – the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class.
When a candidate receives a provincial nomination under the Federal Express Entry, he/she is given an additional 600 points towards their federal ranking score. These points effectively cement their chance of getting an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
The Labour Impact Category is for foreign nationals with a valid job offer in the province and support from a Prince Edward Island employer and is divided into three streams: Skilled Worker, Critical Worker and International Graduate.
The PEI PNP has issued 1,177 invitations to apply through its Express Entry and Labour Impact categories so far this year.
