Canada organized an Express Entry draw on April 16, 2021 to issue invitations among eligible candidates. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System score required by candidates to qualify for an invitation was 417 for this draw.

Express Entry draws are usually held in the middle of the week so that immigration candidates have enough time to work on their applications for permanent residence. The April 16 draw was hence surprising because it took place just prior to the weekend.

Details of the draw

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada decided to invite a total of 6,000 candidates during Canada express draw. The selected candidates will now be able to submit their applications for permanent residence.

All of them belong to the Canadian Experience Class. In the last CEC-only Express Entry draw, Canada has invited 5000 candidates and the cutoff score had been 15 points higher.

Apart from having a score of 417, the candidates must have registered their profile in the Express Entry pool prior to March 1, 19:53:46 UTC. The tie-break rule is taken into consideration for every draw.

IRCC has been working extra hard these past few months in order to invite more skilled candidates into the country. The pandemic adversely affected immigration numbers last year and Canada is currently trying to make up for the losses.

Canada’s target is to invite 401,000 newcomers this year which is why the country is inviting huge batches of candidates in every draw. The April 16 draw was the second largest in the history of Express Entry.
